We are enhancing our Newborn Photography to next level with Maddy Rogers from U.K.

We are photographer duo and we are the proud owners of a boutique photography studio based in Hong Kong specialising in family portraits, maternity and newborn babies. However, when it comes to newborn session, which we love the most, handling babies can prove to be rather difficult especially when handling the newborn baby and constantly worrying about the baby’s safety throughout the session. While we were looking for a specialist who could help us overcome that hurdle, we are very excited to find Maddy Rogers details on the website. Her amazing reputation and her spectacular work ensured that we make the flight from Hong Kong to meet her at her studio in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, UK.

We decided on a two day private training session at Maddy’s lovely studio. As soon as we arrived, we knew we had made the right decision. Maddy’s warm personality made us feel at home. She shared with us how she would prepare the parents and their expectations before their arrival while she prepared all the props and kit needed for this session. When the baby and the parents arrived, Maddy thoroughly went through exactly how she would do things such as posing tips, transiting between two settings, reading sleep and soothing techniques without holding back on anything. She showed us techniques as to how to connect with the baby, which poses the baby would be more comfortable in, the importance of a confident and firm supporting hand which will help give the baby a feeling of safety and trust. Watching her conduct the session in such a smooth and professional manner was fascinating. The amount we learned from her is phenomenal and we came home with so many skills, insights, styling and practical tips.

On the second day was the practical part of the session which was both exciting and a little nerve racking at the same time. We chose a few of the preferred sets out of Maddy’s extensive baby props collection and luckily Maddy offered an exquisite basket, new unicorn headband and few other amazing props for the session. We had a beautiful baby girl and Maddy helped us on the side by using the faux ‘StandIn’ baby to replicate the wrapping, smoothing, and posing with the real baby in my arms. Maddy also showed us how to find the most flattering shooting angles that parents love; how to create a varied and attractive image from evolution on a wrapping pose. All these learning were only possible because of the amazing support, encouragement and training we had received on the 1^st day.

We finished the day with a Photoshop and Lightroom editing techniques refresher. Maddy showed us how she edits the images and creates those pretty creamy skin tones that all newborn pictures have. She also showed us some marketing ideas through facebook business pages and shared a few of her business supporting resources.

With Liza assisting on the baby poses and Vincent being the photographer, our course came to an end. We came back from the session feeling more knowledgeable, confident and safety-conscious than ever before. There is no doubt that we chose the right person to train us and we can’t wait to start photographing our client’s newborn babies in a brand new and professional style.
